Money in Buenos Aires
There are hundreds of banks and money exchange offices (called cambios) in the city center and around. Normally banks in Buenos Aires are only open between 11am and 4pm which is pretty limited, so make sure to stop in if you pass one that is open during that time. Though there is often a longer waiting period to be seen, the exchange rate is usually better. It is very important to compare the rates between offices as they can differ in exchange rates.
For people who still use travelers’ checks, it is very difficult in Buenos Aires to change them and find a favorable rate. However, you can still find that certain hotels like the Mariot and Hilton will change them for you. ATMs are located at nearly every street corner in Buenos Aires. Every ATM dispenses pesos, although several will give you dollars. A debit card will only allow you to withdraw 300 pesos (100 dollars) at one given time. If you have a credit card you can withdraw 1000 pesos (a bit over 300 dollars) at one given time. |
