The National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires has a new exhibition…“Botero, drawings on canvas and paper”, a display of 50 drawings by the famous Colombian artist Fernando Botero (born in Medellín, 1932). These works are all part of the artist´s personal collection, which is displayed infrequently, and then only in museums.

Botero uses watercolor, pencil, pastel, ink and charcoal on paper and canvas. He is especially skilled at working with sanguine, which is a soft, dark red pencil. This is a difficult skill rarely used by artists.

This exhibition is composed of 50 of his works, most of which are in black and white, some of which are in watercolors. It´s divided into 5 sections, the first of which is devoted to life in Latin America, Boteros´s main inspirational source. This section focuses on characters, costumes, architecture, customs and rituals. The theme of the second section is bullfighting and violence. The third focuses on the circus, the fourth to still lives and large scale drawings. The final chapter is devoted to music.
The location of this exhibit is the National Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA): Avenida del Libertador 1473 Admission is free!!
