Arturo is the name of a famous 29 year old polar bear that lives in the Argentinean Mendoza Zoo.

Arturo was born in 1985 in a zoo in Colorado in the United States. He lived here until they decided to move him in 1993 to Buenos Aires to keep company to a female polar bear Pelula. But Pelula died in 2012 and since then Arturo lives alone and, according to many people, depressed.

And now he is already making the news for months because animal right campaigners are criticizing the conditions he is living in at the zoo, conditions that are too different from his natural habitat.

They want him to move to the Assiniboine Park Conservancy in Winnipeg in Canada but the Argentinian zoo is against this. They believe that changing the old bear to another place would be more harmful for him than keeping him in Argentina. The zoo changed already his cage, they made it bigger and he has a room that can cool down until -12ºC and they gave him a beach but the activists are still not happy, they want an expert to check if he is able to move to Canada or not.
