Lasting most of the month of February in some South American cities, Carnival is celebrated with some gusto and this is no different in Buenos Aires. For 2013, in Argentina, Carnival weekend officially takes place from the 9th-12th of February and the Monday and Tuesday – 11th and 12th of February – are national holidays.
Drums and colourful costumes can be seen and heard in all parts of Buenos Aires, with each barrio coming out with different dances and costumes. The main events will take place at Parque Centenario, but here are some other events to look out for:
Parades/Processions
Parades took place on Saturday and will take place again on the 18th from 7am to 2pm, and again from 7pm to midnight over the long weekend. Here is where there will be drumming and dancing:
Almagro: Av. Corrientes between Av. Medrano and Bulnes
Colegiales: Av. Federico Lacroze between Gral. Ramón Freire and Martínez
Colegiales 2: Benjamín Matienzo between Conesa and Gral. Ramón Freire
Colegiales 3: Av. Federico Lacroze between Gral. Ramón Freire and Conesa
Palermo: Darwin between Honduras and Gorriti

Other Festivities
Carnival related shows will also be on show at the Anfiteatro Eva Perón in Parque Centenario on Friday evenings throughout February.
At the Centro Cultural Rojas there will be thematic film screenings about carnival from the 18th to the 22nd of February at 7pm, before a live Carnival show on the 22nd of February at 9pm by Los Linyeras de la República Popular de la Boca.
