The forthcoming film ´Zero Theorem´ of screenwriter Terry Gilliam, allegedly violates copyrights. Three street artists in Buenos Aires that made a big graffiti mural, called Castillo, have filed a lawsuit. The movie is about a computer hacker in search of meaning starring Matt Damon and Christoph Waltz.

Castillo was finished on December 2010 and was registered with the Copyright Office in 2013. It is a well-known and important piece of artwork in the streets of Buenos Aires. It is also one of the few graffiti’s that has survived being in the ‘zona de graffiti’ on Fitz Roy Street. A street known as being quite hospitable to public murals.

Gilliam, the screenwriter, shot his movie in Bucharest, Romania. An important local in the film is a chapel converted into the living quarters of the protagonist. The exterior wall of the chapel, according to the lawsuit, “features a colorful mural that is a misappropriation of Copyright Artwork. The lawsuit contains pictured comparisons.

The street artists demand a ban on the movie that is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 19th. They also want statutory damages, profits and costs
