The Argentinian President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has announced that Argentina plans to return archeological artefacts to their South American neighbors including Peru and Ecuador. She commented at the ceremony that she is doing something special and wants to encourage other countries to do the same:

“It is an honor and a pleasure to restore the cultural wealth of countries such as Ecuador and Peru in a world where such wealth has so often been taken away”.

The ceremony was attended by the ambassadors of Ecuador and Peru. Although the Argentinian President has spoken of her commitment to the repatriation of artifacts all over the world, she has not yet commented on which items will be returned or how long the process will take. She went on to say that countries who hold items from other countries refusing to return them, should at the very least pay some kind of royalty for the use of artifacts that were created by other cultures.
